“You can be serious, but you must never ever take yourself seriously”
It’s a rainy Tuesday evening and I can hear a thunderstorm setting in. I am listening to Jennifer Saunders read an extract from her book, Bonkers: My Life In Laughs, on Radio 4.
In this extract Jennifer Saunders is talking about choosing a university to go to, her beginnings at The Central School of Speech and Drama and meeting Dawn French. She also manages to talk about her parents and about her earliest thoughts on comedy.
Not only is it a chance to listen to Jennifer Saunders’ gorgeous voice but it’s particularly poignant to someone in my position, someone hoping to be on the brink of a career in acting or comedy.
It is, of course, funny and witty, and comfortingly funny.
